Magnolias

For a delightful flowering tree in the garden you cannot go past a magnolia, they are simply magnificent. Forming thick, waxy petals forming goblet shaped flowers in tones of white, yellow, pink and deep velvet purple. Originally from Asia, New Zealand has influenced the development of many Magnolia varieties including Mark Jury’s series. A favourite of mine is Magnolia Black Tulip is a deep burgundy goblet shape, growing to 5m.

Magnolia Athene

(M. x soulangeana Lennei Alba x Mark Jury) Very large campbellii type cup and saucer flower. Distinctive heavy textured petals in bi-colour - ivory white with violet pink. PVR applied for.

A smaller growing hybrid with an abundance of white flowers. A nice rounded habit.

An upright hybrid with unusual greenish yellow flowers with creamy white interiors produced from an early age.

Magnolia Butterflies

Neat growing upright tree .Clear deep yellow tulip like flowers with red stamens appear before leaves in spring. Prefers acid soil conditions.

Exquisite, large clear pink blooms unfold like crushed satin into magnificent bowl-shaped flowers. Attractive upright spreading growth.

A large rounded bloom reddish purple outer sides on the petal and white inner sides. Flowers in mid Spring. A nice tree for a small garden.PVR.

A beautiful creamy white form of Campbellii with large, open tulip-shaped blooms. Requires several years to settle in to flowering but worth waiting for.

A vigorous early flowering form with large rose pink goblet shaped flowers white inside with pinkish marginal flush.

Magnolia campbelli Lanarth

A striking form of the early flowering type. The very large flowers are cyclamen-purple with even darker stamens.

Rich purple flowers in early to mid Spring. Upright branching pyramidal habitl. PVR

Magnolia Delavayi

This species of Chinese origin, produces impressive hard and leathery leaves of up to 30cm long. Cup shaped, pale buff-yellow flowers appear in late summer and are slightly fragrant. Hardy.

A beautiful late flowering selection of this species with beautiful creamy white tulip shaped blooms.

(Evergreen Magnolia) Magnificent evergreen Magnolia with fragrant creamy white flowers, (up to 25cm) throughout summer. Prefers shelter.

A compact, pyramidal form with very attractive foliage. Broad leaves are a glossy, dark green with very distinctive coppery indumentum. Creamy-white, fragrant blooms in summer.
