As the days get shorter in March, it is hard to think about the beauties of Spring bulbs. Flowering bulbs brighten up the garden coming out of a cold winter. It is time to choose and plant your Spring bulbs. Spring bulbs remind me of visiting my Grandmothers garden. I loved picking her flowers especially her grape hyacinths en masse and many others to make little posies! There are lots to choose from Crocuses, Tulips, Frittilarias, Anemone, Reticulata iris, Bluebells, Narcissus (daffodils), leucojams (snowflakes), muscari(grape hyacinths) and many more.
Most bulbs need excellent drainage so choose a free-draining position in your garden. When your bulbs are young and developing it is important to give then lots of potash to help with flowering and firming of the bulbs. And don’t forget to keep track of your bulbs in the garden, maybe place markers or you can plant directly into bulb baskets which are easily uplifted and moveable . If you are limited for space you can strategically plant bulbs flowering at different times of the year at different depth-like a pyramid.
